No, you're not supposed to, and yes, I do it; these comments are not express to 1p breakers.
I use a plastic-body electric screwdriver with extension, not a manually-driven screwdriver.
Of course, I'm talking about 120v to ground, not 277v. And, one or 2, non a whole panel.

At 26 years quondam, I did it live all mean solar day long, voltage didn't matter.
At 36, would still do 120 volts live but not 277.
Now, at 46, no way no how no thing the voltage.
I'm in your "36" category. I'll add an I-line breaker to a hot 277/480 osculation, but nothing else cheers.

Highly recommend wearing safety glasses.
And dry out shoes - especially on concrete floors
And I've bought a few screw holding drivers, phillips and apartment
All the same, I've had a few screwdrivers with a notch blown out.

A 1/4" nutdriver'southward insulation on the very finish is too big to get into the hole on a 277v. s.p. Siemens beaker.

If you lot are not comfy connecting alive and so delight don't do it. This isn't the Hairy Chested Men's Lodge.
I typically connect them alive, one,ii,3 pole breakers. I was taught to connect them alive. Businesses and factories didn't want us shutting down total panels.
We would test the double-decker/ busses, circuit breakers for shorts then install.
I recommend proper glasses, gloves and boots.
